What is Robotic Process Automation (RPA)?
Robotic Process Automation is the technology that uses computer software or a “robot” to emulate and integrate the actions of a human interacting within digital systems to execute a business process. RPA robots utilize the user interface to capture data and manipulate applications just like humans do. RPA aims to replace repetitive tasks performed by humans with a virtual workforce. Humans then make judgmental calls, handle exceptions and provide oversight.
How does RPA work?
RPA robots are capable of mimicking many–if not most–human user actions. They log into applications, move files and folders, copy and paste data, fill in forms, extract structured and semi-structured data from documents, scrape browsers, and more.

The robot’s work is controlled by a framework, which processes all types of errors that might occur. This way the robot doesn’t stop working on a process regardless of what happens with a specific transaction.
Transactions Processing & Reporting
Every transaction (e.g. an invoice) in processes separately and it is either completed, or systems are returned to their initial state if an error occurs.
We distinguish system errors (e.g. an application stops responding) from business errors (e.g. invalid data), as well as different kinds of system and business errors, and we could configure how to handle each exception.
System Error notification
If the robot cannot begin to work on a process due to a system error (e.g. an application could not be opened), it sends an e-mail to the IT team with details regarding the issue.
Flexible configuration and avoiding hardcoding
All configurable parameters, such as application URL and contact e-mails, are stored in a configuration file rather than including them in the source code. This way they could be easily changed when needed.
The source code is given to the customer so that they could modify it and develop new functionalities.
Multiple processes executed by one robot
A robot could work consecutively on multiple processes.
The configuration file supports Testing and Production environments, which could be switched easily via a combo box.
The code is developed via modular programming, which allows independent testing of different functionalities, as well as easily modifying a single module when needed.
High Security Standards
sensitive data such as usernames and passwords are stored in Windows Credential Manager. Managing usernames and passwords is done directly by Windows without participation of the robots.
High Productivity & Reliability
With some small modifications in some modules it is possible robot’s data to be moved on an SQL server, which enables the following functionalities:
- Maintaining a fail-over robot: If a robot stops working a fail-over robot could be activated to continue working on the same process.
- Several robots working on the same process: when higher productivity is required, multiple robots could work in the same process.
- Switch to a different SQL server: a robot could switch from one SQL server to another when needed.
